Monsoon failure: Kerala Farm Lands Die

South West Monsoon failure has resulted in a drought like situation in the farming sector of Kerala, India
Rice production in Kerala’s rice bowl, Palakkad has considerably went down. Pepper, Ginger and other cash crops production in Wayanad was very low. Idukki, the spice district is the most adversely affected
district in Kerala, where Cardamom and Turmeric farms were affected by atmospheric temperature rise.
Cardamom plants will not withstand high temperature as it grows in a cool environment.
Scientists have pointed out that climate change has tremendous impact on rain and monsoon winds. In Kuttanad, rice farming is seriously affected for the last many years due to the erratic rain. If heavy rain is not coming this year too, and flooding of rivers to happening, it will be a disaster to Kuttand.
